Posted on

Significantly fewer tests to diagnose growth hormone deficiency (GHD) were conducted during the COVID-19 pandemics while there was a clinically meaningful increase in cases of central precocious puberty (CPP) in girls, according to a study aimed to determine the impact COVID-19 had on pediatric endocrine.

In this retrospective study, researchers analyzed data collected for pediatric endocrine stimulation tests between 2019 and 2020 in a tertiary center.

In 2019, 278 tests were performed on 206 patients compared to in 2019, in which, 251 tests were performed on 190 patients. There was a 35% reduction in tests to diagnose GHD and a 30% reduction in diagnoses. There was a 38% increase in CPP diagnosis in 2020 compared to 2019.
