Blood glucose reduced with cinnamon supplement in patients with prediabetes

Posted on

Cinnamon supplementation improved fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and glucose tolerance in patients with prediabetes, according to a study published the Journal of the Endocrine Society.

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial, 54 patients with prediabetes were randomly assigned to receive cinnamon 500 mg or placebo 3 times per day.

At 12 weeks, FPG increased in patients receiving placebo but remained stable in those taking cinnamon. Patients taking cinnamon also saw a significant decrease of the PG area under the curve and of the 2-hour PG of the oral glucose tolerance test.
