Pain redefined medically for first time since 1979

The International Association for the Study of Pain updated its definition of ‘pain for the fist time since 1979.

The original definition was: “An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage.”

The definition has been revised to “An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage.”
