Portal vein system invasion independent risk factor for long-term survival in distal cholangiocarcinoma

Posted on

Of the 123 patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma included in this retrospective review, 17 had pathologically confirmed portal vein system invasion.

Tumor differentiation degree, portal vein system invasion, and lymph node metastasis were found to be independent risk factors affecting long-term survival in patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma with portal vein invasion.

The 1-year overall survival was 79.7% for patients without portal vein system invasion and 58.9% for patients with portal vein system invasion. The 1-year overall survival was 48.6% and 10.8%, respectively. Median overall survival was 33 months and 12 months, respectively, for patients without and with portal vein system invasion.
