Statin use linked to lower risk of dying from ovarian cancer

Lipophilic statins were linked to reduce mortality in patients with ovarian cancer, according to a study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Virtual Annual Meeting II, held online June 22-24.

In the study, researchers analyzed the association between the use of satins before and after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer and ovarian cancer mortality.

In this study, there were 2621patients who took statins out of 10,062 patients with ovarian cancer; 80% of those patients took lipophilic statins. Compared with patients who never used statins, statins were associated with a 40% reduction in ovarian cancer mortality and lipophilic statins was associated with a 43% reduction in ovarian cancer mortality.
