Thyroid eye disease biomarkers provide potential information for therapeutic targets
A regulatory pathway of biomarkers for thyroid eye disease (TED) was constructed by researchers to help diagnose TED and understand orbital involvement, according to a study. The pathway is made up of 310 connected components and 1134 interactions.
Gene biomarkers from published literature and computationally predicted from microarray gene expression data were combined in this data-driven approach.
Overall, 22 gene biomarkers—18 semi-automatically curated from the literature and 4 predicted using data-driven approaches, were found to be involved in the pathogenesis of TED. These biomarkers may provide information for targeted therapies.
“This constructed pathway can be further utilized for disease dynamics and simulation studies,” the authors concluded.
